One of our sprinkler system design professionals will set up a time to measure your yard and determine your design needs. Designing an irrigation system with the appropriate number of zones is crucial to creating an efficient method. We will section your lawn into “zones.” Irrigation zones should be broken up into areas with similar water use requirements. A sprinkler zone for a shaded backyard would likely have different irrigation needs than a front yard that gets direct sunlight for at least 8 hours a day. A professionally zoned irrigation system is much easier to program and tune and will allow for the most efficient water use.

There are many sprinkler heads; the two bare sprinkler heads used in residential irrigation systems are oversized area rotors and small spray area sprinklers. Selecting the right sprinkler heads and spacing them is crucial to providing uniform water coverage in all target zones with a properly designed sprinkler system and sketching out proposed sprinkler head coverage for each zone before selection is best to configure sprinkler head spacing and selection properly.

Irrigation Controller

Your irrigation controller is responsible for turning your lawn irrigation system on and off at the appropriate or scheduled times. We carry a variety of irrigation system controllers that offer a wide range of features. Toro, Irritrol & Weathermatic offer primary controllers which include a clock and allow for basic on/off settings by days of the week or other intervals and may offer several pre-set programs. Advanced controllers provide “smart” technology that obtains weather data and measures other data such as temperature and humidity for increased efficiency. Most smart controllers are EPA WaterSense certified and have become more popular because they use resources wisely. You should consider several best practices when designing an irrigation system that will enhance your lawn and landscape while using water resources wisely.
